Playing Rummy Online

Rummy Rules:

There are many variations of Rummy online. Rummy can be played as a card game or as a tile game called Rummikub. Rummy card games online can be played in many different styles including Gin rummy, Oklahoma gin, Kalooki 40 and Kalooki 51. Rummikub online is played with tiles and although it is very similar to the Rummy card games it has a few minor details.

Rummy and Rummikub online games are played with 2-4 players. All players are dealt cards or tiles and the remaining cards are placed face down in a pile. In Rummikub there is no pile. In some Rummy games one card will be face up.  The object is for the player to form melds from their hand.  A meld is a group of cards or tiles that are defined in the game as a group. The first player to form melds with all of his or her cards wins the hand.

Despite the wide range of Rummy games online, the principals of Rummy are the same in all the different Rummy and Rummikub games online. The basic principal of Rummy is to attain points. Points are won by the rules defined by the specific Rummy or Rummikub online game being played. The player to amass the most points and have the highest score wins!!

As stated above Rummikub and Rummy have minor differences that are important to note. Rummikub online is played with tiles of different colors and 2 jokers. Each player needs to form melds on the table. Unlike Rummy card games, in Rummikub online a player does not necessarily have to pick up a tile every turn. A player can start making melds once they have 30 points on their rack. The first to get to 200 points or more wins!

Rummy card game is a fun and exciting game that is played head on against the other players at the table. As stated above, after the cards are dealt to each player, clockwise around the table, the remaining cards (and there will always be remaining cards) are placed face down on the table. Rummy online can be played with many decks but the minimum is one standard 52 card deck. Each player can on their turn either stay with their hand or choose a card from the deck or the discard pile, which is the pile that the last player has thrown out a card.

The strategy in Rummy is to use the pile to the player's advantage. A player can see what their opponent has discarded and which cards they are picking up from the discard pile. In the end the card a player needs to win can be in his or her opponents hand the entire game.

Rummy and Rummikub online are challenging and a ton of fun!!!

There is a wide range of Rummy games online; the following is a list of the most popular versions of Rummy online:

  • Gin Rummy/ Oklahoma Gin
  • Kalooki 40 and Kalooki 51

Gin Rummy:

Gin Rummy and Oklahoma gin are played with a standard deck of 52 cards and no jokers. Aces are only used as the low card in these games. In Gin rummy each player is dealt either seven or ten cards.

A player can win a hand by getting "Gin", which is all the player's cards in his or her hand are melds and one card is discarded. A player can also win a hand and obtain points by "Knocking" his or her opponent. A knock may be called when a player's cards that are not melds or deadwood cards, have a point score of 10 or lower. The concept is to call a knock when the player feels that they have the lowest point value in their hand and therefore beat their opponent. A non-successful knock awards the opponent all the points in the knockers hand and the knocker receives a 25 point loss as punishment.

In Gin rummy, Aces are worth 1 point, picture cards are worth 10, and all other cards are worth their face value.

Extra bonus points are earned in these following cases:

·        Knock points- In a case that a player calls a successful knock the player is awarded the difference between the values of his or her deadwood cards and their opponents deadwood cards. For example, if a player has a value of 6 and knocks his opponent whom has a value of 12, the knocker is awarded 6 points.

·        Gin Bonus- When a player wins the hand and calls gin they are awarded a bonus 25 points and all of their opponents deadwood card points.

·        Undercut- As stated above when a Player knocks and the defending player has a lower point value than the knocker, the knocker loses 25 points and the opponent is awarded the value of the difference between their deadwood cards.

Rummy 40:

Rummy 40 is played with two decks of 52 cards and jokers are added. The joker can switch any card on the table. The niche of Rummy 40 is that a player cannot put down their melds until they equal 40 points. Unlike Gin, Rummy 40 is played that the Ace can only be used as the high card and is worth 11 points. The face cards are each valued at 10 points and all the remaining card are worth their numerical value.

When a player wins the opponents lose the amount of points in which they hold in their hand. For example if a player is holding a 5 and a king they will be penalized 15 points. The joker's point value changes in penalty and is worth 15 points as opposed to the winning hand where the joker is worth the card it represents.

Rummy 51 is played just like Rummy 40 the main difference being the number in the title!!

Now that you are knowledgeable in the different Rummy games and Rummikub online, it is time to download and play Rummy and Rummikub games online!!!
