Play Pool Online
There are many different versions of the game of pool online. One of the most popular games of pool downloaded and played online is called 8 ball. When most people talk about playing pool online, they are generally referring to 8 ball.
8 ball is known as one of the easiest variants of pool played and downloaded online.
Object of the game of pool online:
The object of the game of pool online is to sink your balls (which are either stripes or solids) in the pockets in any order, except for the 8-ball which is always kept for last.
Setting up the game of pool:
All 15 balls are set up in a triangular rack at one end of the pool table. The 8 ball is placed in the middle of the triangle. One player is chosen to shoot and break the ball rack apart using the white cue ball. This player is referred to as "the breaker". The break is considered legal only if: 1) At least one ball is pocketed (except for the 8 ball and the cue ball). 2) At least four balls touch the walls of the pool table.
If the pool player who started the game sinks a ball in one of the pockets, that ball determines the type of ball the player will be aiming for throughout the rest of the game (either solid or stripe).
If the breaker sinks the white cue ball in a pocket (also referred to as "scratches"), all other balls that were sunk remain in the pockets but the table is considered "open". An open table means that the type of ball the player will use has not yet been determined. The player could aim for any ball at this point (stripe or solid).
Rules of the game:
The pool players take turns trying to sink their balls. If a player pockets one of their own pool balls, they are given another turn to shoot again. However, if a player pockets one of the opponent's balls, it is considered a foul. The ball is not removed from the pocket and therefore the opponent gains that ball (as if he pocketed it) and takes his turn. If a player pockets the 8 ball before all his others, he loses the game.
When a pool player has pocketed all his balls except for the 8 ball, he has to call his moves (announce which pocket he is aiming for). If the player sinks the 8 ball in any other pocket (besides the one which was called), he loses the game. However, if the player pockets the 8 ball in the correct pocket, he wins the game.
